Murphy really was a seriously underrated player. I had totally forgotten he was that good. Reminds me of Firmino for some reason due to his unselfishness. What was really surprising to me watching these clips was his pace dribbling which I did not realise he had in him. He glided past players with ease.

This is my childhood. Nostalgia at best. So many of those '98-'04 goals are ingrained in my brain, i can see the first frame and immediately recognise how everything is going to unfold. Many great moments. I wish i'll soon see the first PL title in my life. It was worth the wait. YNWA

Things went a bit wrong many seasons, that's why we only won the title once in the past 30+ years

Gerrard was so good!!! Every aspect of his game was top notch! What a complete player.

Around 2004 i believe. Some events in the match like Cristiano showing his packs while shirtless, and also Diego Forlan delaying kick off after throwing his shirt while celebrating goal

@@bimanatawilaga7509 I remember that Forlan incident. He scored a goal, took off his shirt but couldn't put it back on even after the kick-off. Ref had to stop the game when he ran onto the pitch shirtless and began running after the ball.

On the 2nd of Nov that season ... We were undefeated and top of the table by SEVEN points .... It looked like Houllier might finally have got things in place for a title win? .... Errrr no. After the 2-0 over West Ham that day , we then went on a horrific run of just TWO wins in our next SIXTEEN league fixtures ... TWO wins between the 9th of Nov and the end of Feb!! ... It was AWFUL! The team improved towards the end of the season and ultimately ended in 5th, while we also beat United 2-0 to win the league cup ... but it was a totally wasted season, and Houlliers increasingly poor decisions in the transfer market were beginning to hurt us.

@@sinasahebghalam8737 Can't remember many injuries. In my opinion it was down to the truly awful spending that summer, and the gradual loss of strength within the squad. We paid big money for Cheyrou, Diouf and Diao ... and all three were awful, providing nothing to the team. Fowler, Litmanen and Barmby were gone, Anelka wasn't signed, and we just REALLY struggled to find goals. Heskey had a terrible season, and it was only Owen who could be replied upon to get a goal. We had gone from a team that had multiple options up front, to a team who had Owen and nothing else ...

You might not like Diouf as a person, but you cannot deny for a stretch of games in this 02-03 season, he was performing at a high level and contributed in several facets of the game for us, of course before we collapsed. Attacking wise with Owen, Heskey, Diouf and Baros, it was a talent filled bunch. I don't know where it went wrong for Diouf and us. He is in the Balotelli category of very talented players who simply couldn't last with us.

Danny Murphy wanted to play first team but Benitez signed Alonso and he couldn't fit him in his new look formation. Danny said on 5Live that he appreciated the fact that Benitez sat him down and explained, instead of selling him behind his back like some managers do.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but Rafa got lucky with the CL and FA cups. The number of bad buys/sales he made season upon season were shocking. Pool almost lost Gerrard, think about that!
