Absolute icon I love the man. He gave my grandad a hug just before he was omitted to hospital with prostate cancer he is all clear now. What a player, what a man. For a Dane to speak English that good means he is basically scouse is also phenomenal. Jan is a legend

Actually, it is quite standard for Scandinavians to speak excellent English. They actually teach the language better, focussing properly on grammar in Scandinavian schools than we do in England.

Was Jan's paperboy from around 91-94 in Wallasey and every Christmas, I'd get £70 cash in a little envelope on the doorstep for me. That’s a real judgment of a character how they treat those around them, especially those who provide a service. Comes across as a proper genuine guy. I’m 45 and as a kid remember he seamed to have magnets on his boots. Fall just stuck to them.

Wonderful man very friendly and approachable.

I've always liked Jan Molby - the Danish Scouser, he even has the accent! What he said about the city of Liverpool is true - it is the most welcoming place on earth. I've lived my whole life in Derbyshire but as a child from age 3 to 18 I was a patient at Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital, which used to be on the corner of Myrtle Street and Mulberry Street where the art college is now and some of the best memories of my childhood were spent in Liverpool. I love the city, the people - they are so warm and welcoming and such a brilliant sense of humour - and most of all I love Liverpool FC! They may not be doing as well this season, but they're still the best team ever! ❤ YNWA

Gotta laff at everyone being so surprised about a native Scandinavian having an excellent command of English. It is the norm for Scandinavia. Schools in those countries actually teach English the way She should be written and spoken with proper grammar in place. Something we have abandoned in England. They generally have an excellent command of the English language in all Northern European countries, anyway.

  • @eightiesmusic1984

Precisely. It is a badge of pride to not care about grammar in the UK. Many do not know that they are unable to speak and write properly. Others are aware that they do not speak correctly but do not care anyway. It should be a source of national embarrassment but anything goes in Britain where there are few agreed standards in society any longer. There are many teachers who do not speak properly and cannot spell accurately too. It is no barrier to promotion but it beggars belief that many of those in the education system cannot model the language correctly. The situation has deteriorated markedly in the last twenty years. When I was at school in the eighties every single teacher's written and spoken English was exemplary.
