Have to agree, that Roy Evans team with Redknapp, Barnes, Fowler, McManaman, Rush, Jones, Matteo and even David Thompson was so easy to support, and the football was so flowing - it's a shame they didn't win that infamous FA Cup but that's sport.

Steve McManaman, my favourite liverpool player from the premier league era (yes even above Stevie, Fernando, Luis Suarez, Mikey and God, plus Robertson and Jurgen's champs), and 2nd fave all time, only to King Kenny. Loved watching him play, so direct, and exciting, didn't lose the ball. Destroyed teams with his running for Liverpool, and made the Galacticos tick in the hugest of games later in his career. So intelligent. Should have been picked to start for England throughout his Pool and Madrid career, a no brainer. A crime that he was not. He's right about that Evans 90's team, they were fantastic to watch, probably just a Carragher or Van Dijk and an Allisson short of being the best team in the land. And I love how upbeat he is and always has a fresh perspective. Loved how during the pandemic he made the point that Liverpool shouldn't spend millions, that that would be a slap in the face to those struggling, obscene. He said it better than me. Right or wrong, I think those little insights are gold. And it's funny to me that recently Liverpool have signed a player, the first to ever remind me of Macca. A long way to go before he could be mentioned in the same breath, but... Luis Diaz, great to see him running strong, proud, committed, skillful, touch, little lay offs, goals. It took me a while to notice, but then suddenly "hey, he's a bit like Macca!" Thanks Steve, you were the best, I loved every second :) YNWA Massively underrated. They often, before Gareth Bale, give him the moniker "the most successful British export." Sure. But actually, it wasn't about what he won, it was was about how he played.

Shaggy was a great player. The nearest we had to John Barnes in terms of being able to run with the ball. The solo goals against Bolton and Celtic would still be talked about if it was Messi.

I’m sure they’ll have Stevie lined up, along with Sir ‘King’ Kenny, Carra, Barnsey, Rushie, Souness, even Stevie Nicol, Keegan, and hopefully Hansen, plus many, many more. Embarrassment of world class ex players, just so many greats from the mid 60’s, but especially the 70’s and 80’s plus many from the 90’s, and the new millennium onwards. Edit, sorry, Barnes has already been on… another one to watch. Prefer listening to ex players, as they have had the time and space to put things into perspective and not worry about keeping themselves in the mentality of ‘one game at a time’ and ‘the only important match is the next one’ which ex players are free from.

Klopp has won a Champions League but he has also lost two UCL finals and a UEFA Cup Final - people remember these things when they look back at the record books. I agree with Graeme Souness when he said that when he returned to Liverpool as manager, it was the wrong time, by his own addmitance he made many mistakes and his bull in a china shop approach didn't work with the seasoned pro's. However, had he been given the managers role a few years later, his role might have been just what they needed, he would have instiled dicipline when it was needed.

What a player, great example of Liverpool's legacy. A sustainable plan for a club would be to bring the academy coaches into the first team alongside the players that graduate. No more hiring super managers, but an escalator system instead. For example, Klopp would be replaced by Alex inglethorpe as his youth team emerge into the first team.

There was the perception before McManaman moved to Madrid that he was a bit of headless chicken - one I believed at the time!. And as a result many were surprised with how well he did. But I was thinking that the style of play in Spain must have suited him more. Less helter skelter more technical stuff. I suppose another reason why McManaman was a success abroad, is that he clearly very level headed.
