For the younger viewers: Aldridge talking about Sunderland not being able to afford £80k - that's the transfer fee, not his weekly wage!
A Red through and through. Possibly one of the most unappreciated players in our history. Great player, He would f*cking die for us (still would). Stats say (wiki) 83 league appearances , 50 goals ! To this day I continue scratching my head as to why we let this fella go. Aldo , Legend

Thank you. I was just thinking that myself. We've had others like that though. Players who would have been all time greats at some clubs, but unless they get a specific shout out, their names rarely get a mention. For me its Kevin Keegan and John Toshack. The guys played his heart out for us, yet they get overlooked a lot.

It was the way the club operated, they did the same with Souness, sell a player for more than you paid for him, the club called it good business sense. It may have looked good on a spreadsheet, but it was terrible football sense. Souness was at his peak in Rome and There was a loss of power without him, same with Aldo.
It’s so good to hear from these legends of our club. We need more of this…thank you
Liverpool legend and the first foreign player playing for Real Sociedad. Sir John Aldridge💪💪

What's great about this interview isn't just that John Aldridge is a great guest who can talk at length about anything he's prompted to, but also that there's a huge amount of respect between him and Jan Molby. Both of them are quick to praise the other for their talents and the contribution that made to their own game, which is heartwarming.
Brilliant what a great podcast The legendary Aldo and the mercurial Molby Supreme footballers and servants of the Mighty Red Machine
Absolute Prime this, what a listen 👌👏🏽
What a man ❤
Aldo is not only a Liverpool legend , he's also an incredible commentator with a supreme Knack of calling the right decisions before the refs have , every time bang on offsides he's incredible .

Still tops my list of favourite Liverpool players of all time. Those 2.5 seasons at anfield provided me immense joy. I was extremely fortunate to meet Aldo and he told us a fantastic story about bashing up an infamous Spanish centre back when he initially moved to Sociedad. He was advised by his teammates to stay clear of this particular player but his teammates didn't know about the scouse mentality which ironically is similar to the basque one. If I remember rightly, this player (can't remember if he was a Bilbao or Zaragoza player) was doing all sorts off the ball and Aldo stayed patient for a bit and then had enough cracked him one back. Bloodied him up. His Sociedad teammates said he would be targeted by all the opposing players for the return fixture as he was a marked man. Along came the return fixture and Aldo was dreading it not knowing what he was about to face but staggeringly he wasn't touched. In fact, they all stayed well clear of him. Taking down their hard man was the best thing Aldo could've done. They shook his hands and showed him an immense amount of respect. Proper scouser. I've paraphrased.the story and obviously Aldo tells it better. Although I was extremely upset when Aldo left but looking back, I'm glad he had that experience in the Basque Republic. Set him up financially too
I was in the Kop at Aldo's last game for us, even to this day I get that orrible lump in me throat an a tear in me eye when in my minds eye I see him chuckin his boots into the Kop. Always a legend to me. Y.N.W.A.
I Love Liverpool
Being Irish and a liverpool fan Aldridge was a goalscoring machine. What a player!
He’s a lovely guy who always has time for a chat about football in the local pubs . Gentleman.
Amazing
You have lived the dream of millions upon millions of Liverpool fans ….& when Rush left I was gutted but you made me forget about Rushy.John Aldrigde ……Liverpool legend
Not a Liverpool fan, but I really enjoy listening to stories of players of yesteryear, mainly those from the 80s.
That episode could of been 10 times longer and it stiĺ wouldn't be enough!! Brilliant show with two of my favourite players as a lad.
Loved aldos time here .At the 9 nil v palace & proper gutted when he left .
A fabulous walk down memory lane for me , John Aldridge was a true legend of that era and a very much underrated player for Liverpool most likely because of the short period of time he spent with the club ..
Love this I was lucky to have watched these lads at Anfield and many away games. Sheer class,in a class side.
That was a great trip down memory lane. 47 minutes just flew by. Liverpool legends.
Was a mistake to sell John Aldridge when he was in top goalscoring form three seasons in a row. Really wasn't the same Ian Rush when he returned from Italy. The Aldridge, Beardsley, Barnes team were specifically created that way to work together.
I had the very great pleasure of seeing both john and jan play absolutely fabulous football ...and a Dane with a scouse accent....brilliant
So blessed to have had the greatest players year after year
Bloody hell!! I managed to drink a WJOLE bottle of Jack Daniels during that wimbledon cup final and during the arsenal match we were playing a gig in London (and our singer was a gooner) and we watched the match in a room FULL of arses. I was pissed and pissed off!! All power to youse both, Aldo and Jan. 👍👍👍
the legendary Aldo
I didn’t want this interview to end..
I watched John at Newport County for a couple of years between 1979/81 winning the Welch Cup playing in Europe in the Cup winner Cup get promotion from the old fourth division
I like the way Aldo openly admits he shouldn't have tapped the Forest player on the head at Old Trafford
Born to scores goals Aldo what a goal scorer for us did it in every division every step up from 4th to 1st scored nearly 25/30 goals for 19/20 yrs 🤣😊
The best one touch goal scorer I have ever seen, rush needed at least three
The biggest desire of my life is to get Liverpool to come back or answer me🥺
Enjoyed that,what a goal scorer
Watching that I have new respect for our players who were around for Hillsborough & what they tried to achieve for the families
Great interview
Brilliant lads 👍
Great podcast this! 👏🔴
These shows are great, keep them coming...This is my era YNWA
I am an Ireland fan. But to me Aldo has to be the most genuine fella that declared for Ireland. He was really proud of it. John even changed his game to suit Charlton’s style. If anyone wants a laugh search Aldridge Mexico USA 94. He lost his head at the official who would not let him on. Then was so annoyed he scored the goal which meant Ireland qualified for the last 16 on goal difference.
Aldo was an absolute demon in front of goal but the man is an actual saint. He’s one of the best people to listen to and we need more of him around the club.
First i very very love liverpool 😢😢😢😢😢 i want to play liverpool team 😢😢
Great video lads!!!

It’s mad how Jan is always the Scousest person in the room
FIRST!!I love u Liverpool
Could have listened to the that all day, should have made it longer
❤❤❤
There are loads of footballers who I think are great players, but don’t think I’d like to have a pint with. But these two are great fellas too
John was a true red great. To this day I can not understand why we let him go after so few seasons 😵💫. 50 goals in 83 appearances 👏. Thanks John!😊

To put it simply, his age! The offer made by Sociedad was great value for an older player, and Ian Rush was back and understandably first choice with Beardsley.
I love Aldo and wish he would come back and manage Tranmere. A great player for both teams and still massively underrated but if you know you know.
I was kinda mad at the way he was treated becayse of Rush. Aldridge was One of the best goal scorers in all liverpools history
His grandson plays for quarry’s I’ve played him
Missed this before, tidy
Still cannot understand why they sold him true legend and Jan
Aldo ☘️🇮🇪☘️
This is what the strikers now need get them on the pitch with the best we had it an art putting the ball in the back of the net get Aldo and Robby with Darwin day in day out and he will get 25 plus a year we got a good manager and staff but none of them put it in the back of the net like these guys YNWA

I wonder how many games did they play together? Not many
I would like to have seen a Fowler/Aldo partnership

Jan:- So, when did you become Irish? John:- Not long after you became Scouse!
To this day I really don't know why John Aldridge didn't aim for the other side of the goal in the FA Cup Final against Wimbledon with his penalty. He had been placing them in the very same corner throughout the entire season so a change on the day would have been nice as goalkeeper Dave Beasant had clearly done his homework. Oh well, distant history now.
@Stormy177

I think you've answered your own question - he'd been doing it all season, so it's the penalty he must have practised most and had success with in matches.
@jsimmo7041

So Beasant knew where he was going, that's possibly why he should have changed it
@Stormy177

@@jsimmo7041 If he'd executed it how he'd hoped (i.e. actually into the corner) Beasant probably still wouldn't have been able to save it, so it was a combination of a bad penalty and a 'keeper who'd done his homework.

Not the fastest...not the strongest...not the most skilled...Aldo was deadly infront of goal. What a front 3 Barnes Beardsley and Aldo
The FA cup out of respect should never have been played same as the 85 European cup
200m in today's money
lol
Love aldo 😇
great goal scorer. big mistake selling him,,,,he scored at every level,,,, who can say that ,,,IMHO better than Rush ,,,
Bottled joining Sunderland, haway, a big club. Too big for little John. Happy to plod along and miss out on the biggest club in England to muck about in Spain and as Ian Rush's boot boy. Oh well, not fit to lick Kevin Phillips' boots anyway.
Belter player
everton should have signed him big mistake
The only man in the World that could have replaced the Legendary Ian Rush, he was absolutely brilliant. One criticism if I had to pick one, is when he’s commentating on the Radio, all you can hear is him sniffing, it does my Cap in 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The reds.
Nice
